Understanding cyber risks through play

Understanding cyber risks through play

Lego Serious Play as an innovative learning method at the ICV North-East Conference

Advancing digitalization increases the vulnerability of companies to cyber attacks. Threats such as malware, ransomware or data theft not only affect IT departments, but can also impair the functionality of the entire organization. In order to effectively counter these risks, increased risk awareness, organizational learning processes and a cooperative approach are crucial in addition to technical protective measures.

This is where Lego Serious Play comes in. With this practical and interactive format, teams work together on realistic case studies to make digital dangers tangible. By using Lego models and storytelling, participants visualize complex scenarios, develop their own solutions and reflect on uncertainties. This creative method not only promotes an understanding of cyber risks, but also facilitates communication within teams, the identification of critical success factors and the joint development of strategies for action.

Participants experience how seemingly abstract threats become tangible: A malware attack or data theft is simulated using models and stories, allowing possible response strategies to be discussed and tested immediately. This practical approach increases the learning effect and supports the sustainable strengthening of organizational resilience.

The combination of creativity, teamwork and a methodical approach ensures that cyber threats do not become an unpleasant surprise. Organizations benefit from an approach that imparts knowledge, strengthens employees’ risk competence and lays the foundation for proactive action in the digital environment.

This topic will be explored at the ICV Nord-Ost conference on October 18 using Lego Serious Play, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Thomas Henschel and Prof. Dr. Fares Getzin from HTW Berlin.
