The ICV Mentoring Program

With this program, we offer our members the exclusive opportunity to develop themselves further through targeted exchange. Participants benefit from individual discussions as mentors or mentees. Different perspectives on current challenges and trends open up alternative approaches to options for action. Whether career starters with experienced professionals or industry newcomers with experts – the program promotes knowledge transfer and personal development. Participation is reserved for ICV members and is free of charge for them.

Together we are stronger

Develop yourself further – exactly where it is most important to you

As a participant in the ICV Mentoring Program, you will benefit significantly from the exchange between mentee and mentor, tailored to your needs. And this in the recognized , internationally oriented and renowned ICV network. The different perspectives on current challenges and trends (e.g. the new role of controllers, automation in finance) as well as the different approaches to tasks and projects open up new and exciting perspectives and options for action for the partners in the mentoring team. However, the compatibility of family and career or other personal concerns related to your job in controlling can also be addressed in mentoring.

We bring together what will be even better together! For example, young professionals (about to start their careers or with little professional experience) with silver professionals (very experienced), industry newcomers with industry experts as well as professionals and silver professionals who exchange plans and experiences for the transition to retirement.

How mentors benefit

Reflection on your own path

According to a 2017 study by the ATD (Association for Talent Development), 59% of mentors reflect on their own professional development through discussions with their mentees, discover new perspectives and open up new horizons for themselves.

Developing social skills

Mentors develop and strengthen leadership and social skills. Forming and strengthening bonds is also one of the successes of being a mentor.

Strengthen self-esteem

The feeling of being needed and recognized with one’s experience and knowledge strengthens self-esteem. The more recognition and appreciation the mentor receives from the mentee, the greater the satisfaction.

Promote positive thinking

The mentor seeks out and reinforces the good qualities, skills and competencies of the protégé. This basic attitude of focusing on the positive is transferred to the basic attitude – of mentor and mentee alike – when dealing with tasks.

Helping makes you happy

Dealing with career starters, mentees from other departments or hierarchical levels are welcome challenges, as they bring variety to your own everyday life. Those who support others and can play an active role in their successes feel validated and satisfied.

How participants benefit

Open to all questions

In mentoring, it is clear from the outset that listening is required whenever it comes to work and career. Because only those who listen can respond to others, answer their questions and fulfill their wishes.

Moving forward instead of standing still

In the mentoring team, people meet without prejudices or prior knowledge of the other person. The focus is clearly on the status quo and professional interests. This goal-oriented, neutral approach without blinkers also helps to recognize a possible discrepancy between self-perception and the perception of others.

More efficient as a team

Instead of struggling alone with jobs, new tasks and requirements or simply the perfect CV, get tips, tricks and support from the other person.

Opening up new perspectives

In this age of information and sensory overload, we often can’t see the wood for the trees. Or have never thought about what might actually be waiting beyond the forest. Mentoring sharpens the view and opens up new horizons.

Motivation included

Changes are always associated with effort. That is why they are often postponed. Also because of the fear of failure. Asking questions or asking for help, even in everyday working life, is something that needs to be learned and consolidated. This is exactly where the mentor offers important, motivating support.

Using new networks

The partner in the Mentoring Program may have exactly the contacts that are the right, important, decisive ones right here and now. And the good thing is: using each other’s relationships is expressly permitted and encouraged!
