“Looking to the future: How AI is changing controlling

Topic Cluster A at the Congress of Controllers will be available also in English!
Artificial intelligence will profoundly change the world of work – but in a different way than many previously expected. According to a study by analyst firm Gartner, around 150,000 jobs worldwide will change so much every day from 2028 that they will have to be redefined or rewritten. At the same time, 70,000 new jobs will be created every day – often where automation, new technologies and training come together.
This development is also making itself felt in controlling: AI can take over routine tasks, create reports automatically or simulate scenarios. This shifts the role of controllers towards strategic analysis, consulting and proactive decision support – opening up new opportunities for corporate management, but also increasing the demands on data quality, data integration and governance.
Nevertheless, the topic continues to be met with skepticism – not least because many discussions fluctuate between grand visions and individual experiments. In order to provide more orientation here, Topic Clustser A at the Congress of Controllers is dedicated to the targeted use of AI (the Topic Cluster A, as well as all plenum speeches, are translated into English).
Dr. Ansgar Heidemann shows how AI-supported analyses of the balance sheet, income statement and cash flow with so-called data agents create new bases for decision-making – from SMEs to corporations. He will also shed light on how predictive analytics and simulations increase planning reliability. Jan Zimpelmann, CFO of the Dr. Beckmann Group, will report on the first AI and machine learning applications in medium-sized manufacturing companies – including experiences with implementation, change management and integration into existing systems. Dr. Marina Hein from smartPM.solutions GmbH, Prof. Dr. Karsten Oehler from SAP Deutschland SE & Co. KG and Steffen Wittenauer from IBM systematically classify Generative AI in planning. Using the Controlling Process Model 2.0, they will show what level of implementation maturity is realistic today – and where scalable benefits, efficiency gains and strategic insights are already emerging.
The Topic Cluster will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Ronald Gleich and Dr. Kim Louisa Dillenberger, who will also accompany the discussion on ethical issues, AI transparency and the role of controllers in data-driven organizations.
he practical examples from SMEs and corporations that provide insights into data agents, machine learning and generative AI impressively demonstrate that innovation begins where data, technology and expertise come together. At the same time, it becomes clear that real added value can only be created if data quality, governance and ethical aspects are consistently taken into account – and if teams are prepared to rethink their work.
The Congress of Controllers and Topic Cluster A invite you to not only observe these developments, but to actively help shape them. Discover how AI can support your planning, analysis and reporting processes and gather ideas that you can use immediately in your company.
Be inspired, question the status quo and shape the future of controlling – with clear decisions, innovative tools and an eye that recognizes opportunities before they arise.
