Kick-off for the deep dive into controlling in construction topics

Construction at work

The kick-off meeting of the newly founded Sector Work Group Construction took place on March 5, 2026 and met with a great response. The organization team and Head of the Work Group Dr. Martin Nicklis, who reported on this meeting for us, succeeded in attracting 21 interested parties to the first virtual meeting.

The high level of interest in the topic was also reflected in the composition of the participants: In addition to 11 members of the ICV, 10 external representatives from the industry took part. The group reflected a broad spectrum of the construction industry – from project developers at the beginning of the value chain to building materials suppliers and traditional construction companies from the building and infrastructure sector through to marketing companies. This meant that the entire spectrum of the construction sector was represented. Participants from the entire DACH region also took part.

During the meeting, the economic significance of the sector and the special features of controlling in construction were first explained, in particular the role of individual projects in comparison to series production. Building on this, the participants identified current opportunities and risks in the construction sector and developed initial key topics that will be explored in greater depth in the upcoming operational meetings.

The aim of the Work Group is to create a forum for informal exchange between ICV members in addition to the networking concept. In so-called deep-dive sessions, practice-relevant controlling topics in the construction industry will be discussed and solutions and best practice recommendations will be developed. In addition, it is planned to produce publications on specific topics as required, thereby also fulfilling the ICV’s role as an opinion leader.
