Between cost pressure and opportunities – rethinking the construction industry

Impulses from and for the construction and housing industry
The construction and housing industry is of enormous importance to the economy and makes a significant contribution to gross value added. In addition to the residential construction, commercial construction and infrastructure sectors (namely schools, daycare centers, etc.), and the increasing importance of the defense sector for construction, it is also of great socio-political significance. It is currently facing major challenges and upheavals. These include the uncertainty of the regulatory and economic framework conditions, increasing cost pressure, a shortage of skilled workers, excessively long and costly approval procedures, declining orders, postponed projects, sluggish digitalization and new requirements due to ESG criteria. On the other hand, new opportunities / business models are emerging for the construction industry, e.g. as a result of the German government’s investment package, while the controlling challenges in long-term production, which is prevalent in construction, differ significantly in some cases from classic series production.
The ICV wants to provide answers to this and has therefore driven forward the establishment of the new Sector Work Group Construction. The first kick-off meeting will take place as an online event on March 5, 2026 at 16.00, language: German. The Sector Work Group Construction is aimed at managers, controllers and financial managers from companies in the construction and housing industry, the construction planning and engineering sector, as well as representatives of universities and associations active in this sector. Dr. Martin Nicklis will chair the new Sector Work Group. If you are interested in participating, you can also contact Dr. Martin Nicklis (m.nicklis@icv-controlling.com) in advance!
