Understanding Controlling – The YouTube Partnership with Steyr University of Applied Sciences
Knowledge shared through video contributes to controlling excellence
The YouTube series “Understanding Controlling” by the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria is a free learning platform that explains business and financial topics in a simple and practical way.
The purpose of the series is to impart knowledge and provide continuing education.
The initiators, Prof. Dr. Christoph Eisl and Prof. Dr. Heimo Losbichler, sought to achieve several goals with this series:
- To clearly explain the fundamentals of management accounting, financial accounting, and finance to students.
- Support courses so that class time can be used more effectively for discussions and exercises (“flipped classroom”).
- Provide professionals with quick and reliable answers to questions related to controlling and finance.
- Make financial education available for free, anytime and anywhere.

- How do you read a balance sheet?
- Budgeting and Business Planning
- Investment calculations
- Cost Accounting
- Financial Management
- Excel Applications for Controllers
- Sustainability and Digitalization Issues in Controlling

These short videos are designed to explain how companies can set, measure, and achieve their goals in a cost-effective manner.
The series is a free online course on management accounting and corporate management, intended for students, young professionals, executives, and anyone who wants to better understand business concepts.
Since 2026, the ICV has officially included the series “Understanding Controlling – Expert Contributions in Video Format in Cooperation with Steyr University of Applied Sciences” in its Media Library. The first video in this new collaboration is titled “The ICV as a New Partner of ‘Understanding Controlling’.”
In terms of content, the series aligns very well with the ICV’s strategic direction, as the organization positions itself as a platform for “Controlling Excellence” as well as knowledge sharing, professional development, and the promotion of young talent.
“Understanding Controlling” is already an established educational brand in German-speaking countries and provides the ICV with an additional specialized knowledge platform for its members, industry experts, and anyone interested in controlling.
