The ICV North-East Conference 2021 in Schwerin: Controlling North German - in stormy seas - EVENT IN GERMAN

SCHWERIN: THE BEST OF TWO REGIONS IN ONE CITY
Schwerin is one of the small towns in northern Germany that have hosted the ICV Conference North in recent years. This time with two special features: The Region Germany East is co-organizer and the ICV Newcomer Award will be presented as part of the conference. What could be better than Schwerin: a place that was first mentioned more than 1,000 years ago and is now the state capital of the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The best of both ICV regions in one city.
With fewer than 100,000 inhabitants, Schwerin is statistically “only” a medium-sized city and is therefore the smallest city that is a state capital in Germany. Nevertheless, the city has been the capital of Mecklenburg for over 650 years, making it one of the longest active capitals in Germany. Since Schwerin was never an autonomous city, it was not a member of the Hanseatic League.
The landmark is Schwerin Castle. After various defensive buildings and castles, today's castle developed in a romantic style on a protected island between 1845 and 1857. The residence of the Mecklenburg dukes and grand dukes for centuries, it is now the seat of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In terms of playfulness, it can be compared to the Bavarian Neuschwanstein and is therefore similar to a “fairytale castle”.
Despite its time as the seat of government, Schwerin is modern: some technology companies have their headquarters in Schwerin and aircraft supply companies have their locations here. Schwerin is also home to three universities (FH des Mittelstands, HS der BA für Arbeit and Vitruvius Design University).
Schwerin is a film city: Of course all the Germans know that a team from “Polizeiruf 110” has its headquarters here. However, Hollywood has also discovered Schwerin: In the US spy comedy “Kingsman: The Golden Circle”, the hero visits his in-laws – and the outside view of Schwerin Castle is shown.
As a small town, the venues for this year's ICV conference are easy to reach on foot. There is just 1.8 km or just under 25 minutes on foot between the hotel recommendation and the location of the evening event.
