Newsletter of the International Controlling Community |
Wednesday, 24.01.2018 |
Hello,
the past year was very challenging but successful for the International Association of Controllers (ICV). In its New Year message to the members, the ICV Board mentions the big Munich Congress 2017 with record attendance, successful regional meetings like the one in Zug (CH) and in Steyr (A), the ICV Digitalization Offensive - a great initiative of our expert work group "BI/Big Data and Controlling", the successful Barcamp premiere, as many new corporate memberships as never before and at the end of the year, the trend-setting international Management Conference. The Annual Review impressively summarizes the work done by many volunteers!
We hope for an even better 2018 – with you! Take part in our many initiatives and events!

ICV BOARD MEETING |
The Board discussed the goals and budget 2018 |
At the beginning of the year, ICV Board meetings traditionally focus on the goals for the new year. At the Board meeting on January 12/13 in Munich, the Board Members discussed and adopted a set of the ICV goals. The Board worked also intensively on the budget 2018. The goals include e.g. to host the Controller Congress also in 2018 as a qualitative highlight, in which more than 600 participants, including numerous guests from non-German-speaking countries, come together. The regional meetings in the autumn should also be of high quality and the autumn conferences, not so big so far, should grow. The Association’s work will focus on growth in both individual and corporate memberships. Cooperations are to be developed with other well-known companies and organizations.
On Saturday, Jan. 13th, the Board of Managing Directors and the Board of Trustees met together (photo). The constructive and lively discussions were under the working title the „ICV 4.0“.

INTERVIEW WITH THE BOARD MEMBERS OF THE CA CONTROLLER AKADEMIE |
Digitalization and its consequences for further education |
Digitalization already takes effect in all areas of life and work; also for controlling it means changes and a need for rethinking. Not only the controllers themselves are affected, but also the providers of education and training in this area. We talked to Dorothee Deyhle and Dr. Klaus Eiselmayer, Board Members of the CA controller akademie, about how they deal with the new requirements and how they experience the change in the daily practice of the CA.

ICV CONTROLLING EXCELLENCE AWARD |
Last days to compete: Win 5.000 EUR! |
Only a few days left to compete for the ICV Controlling Excellence Award: The ICV invites you to take part in the competition – on the first day of the Controller Congress (April 23-24, 2018) the best solution will be awarded. The selection of the best controlling solution is based on the controller’s mission statement defined by the International Group of Controlling (IGC). An exemplary controlling solution has to meet the following criteria: It contributes to a significant change which has been tested in practice; this change affects not only the controlling department, but contributes to the success of the whole company; the change has been developed by controllers in-house and represents an innovation. One of the Award 2018 innovations is to publicly nominate the candidates for the award-winner from the sub-mitted applications in February 2018. The winner will be selected from this nominee circle.

THE DIGITALIZATION OFFENSIVE OF THE ICV AND PARTNERS |
Webinars and Labs help to work in our digital times |
The digitalization was much too long seen especially as a theme of the start-ups of Silicon Valley. A rethinking began only after the first effects of disruptive changes could not be overlooked even in the core industries of so-called traditional companies. However, in many cases the scope and the speed of the changes are dramatically underestimated. Against this backdrop, the ICV expert work group "BI/Big Data and Controlling" has set itself a goal to launch a "digitalization offensive". Together with partners the ICV invites to the webinars and labs that can help you work in the digital times.

GLOBAL TRANSACTION FORECAT 2018 BY BAKER MCKENZIE |
Accelerating global deal activity |
The increasing of key economic and political risks and the emergence of positive macroeconomic deal drivers will accelerate global deal activity in 2018, reveals the third edition of the Global Transactions Forecast issued by Baker McKenzie. 2017 has been a period of apprehension for global dealmakers and while economic growth has certainly slowed, the cliff-edge some were predicting has failed to materialize. Following on the momentum created in the second half of 2017, The Global Transactions Forecast, developed in association with Oxford Economics, predicts a cyclical peak in 2018 for several macroeconomic and financial deal drivers, with 2018 marking the high point of the deal cycle for the world's largest transaction centers.

DIGITIZATION IN MOTOR VEHICLE MANUFACTURING |
Boosting Process Reliability and Transparency |
Pressure to optimize is intense on the floors of motor vehicle manufacturers’ factories: Variance is steadily increasing. Costs have to be contained. Fraunhofer researchers are now using RFID technology to introduce more transparency in motor vehicle manufacturers’ supply chains and manufacturing operations. This reduces time and labor, thus boosting cost effectiveness. Researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation IFF in Magdeburg are readying manufacturing and supply chain operations for digitization and Industrie 4.0 respectively. “Radio frequency identification or RFID tags on parts can boost process reliability and efficiency significantly,” says Marc Kujath, research scientist at the Fraunhofer IFF. “We have demonstrated this in feasibility studies and wireless tests conducted jointly with Mercedes-Benz Vans at their factory in Ludwigsfelde near Berlin.” Such RFID systems consist of RFID tags on parts and a scanner that reads out information optically. In a first step, the researchers analyzed which of the numerous vehicle parts are best suited for this and identified as many as forty parts. For the start, the experts focused on mirrors and seats for further developments.
