Companies must analyze their impacts and dependencies, as well as the resulting risks and opportunities, and report on them transparently.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond reporting requirements, biodiversity management helps reduce risks, secure stable business models, and strengthen long-term resilience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefits and Fundamentals of Biodiversity Analysis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Biodiversity analyses consider two perspectives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Outside-in:<\/strong> Dependencies on ecosystem services such as water availability, soil fertility, and pollination.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Inside-out:<\/strong> The impacts of business activities and the value chain on biodiversity and ecosystems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Companies can draw on existing experience with climate risk analyses. Data processes and assessment methods can be partially applied, but must be adapted to the location- and impact-specific characteristics of biodiversity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Six-Step Process Model<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A structured biodiversity analysis consists of six key steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Build a database:<\/strong> Link sites to external biodiversity data.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Form clusters:<\/strong> Group sites, facilities, and activities for comparable assessments.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Identify impacts:<\/strong> Examine key influencing factors such as land-use changes, resource consumption, and pollution.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Evaluate measures:<\/strong> Assess their effectiveness, feasibility, and contribution to risk reduction.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Analyze resilience:<\/strong> Assess impacts on the business model, strategy, and value creation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Develop a roadmap:<\/strong> Define measures, responsibilities, and milestones.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Collaboration between sustainability management, risk management, operational departments, procurement, and controlling is crucial in this regard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Integration into Corporate Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For biodiversity analyses to deliver their full benefits, their results must be integrated into existing management and decision-making processes.
