The construction and housing industry is one of the main pillars of the economy and makes a significant contribution to gross value added. At the same time, the industry is undergoing profound upheaval: uncertain regulatory and economic conditions, increasing cost pressure, a shortage of skilled workers, lengthy approval procedures, declining orders and project postponements are presenting companies and, in particular, controlling departments with new, complex challenges.
In addition, digitalization has been slow to date and sustainability and ESG criteria have significantly increased requirements. At the same time, however, new opportunities are also opening up – for example through public sector investment programs and innovative business models. For controllers in the construction and housing industry, this means that resilient management approaches, transparency in volatile project structures and professional risk management are required.
The Sector Work Group Construction offers a platform for practical exchange, joint solutions and best practices – from the industry for the industry.
The Sector Work Group Construction in detail
In order to translate the challenges of the construction and housing industry into future-proof solutions, this ICV Sector Work Group will bundle the controlling expertise of experts in the industry from 2025, develop it further, make it visible and provide active support from the ICV.
The Sector Work Group Construction sees itself as a network for controllers and controlling managers from construction companies, engineering and planning offices, the housing industry and construction-related services.
The focus is on:
- professional exchange on current industry-specific issues
- the discussion of new regulatory, economic and technological developments
- the development of practical controlling solutions for a dynamic environment
The Sector Work Group thrives on the active participation of its members and open dialog at eye level.
Possible focal points of the Sector Work Group include
- Controlling in a volatile regulatory environment (e.g. EU requirements and national implementation)
- Dealing with postponed or interrupted construction projects (planning, preliminary costs, claims, supplements)
- Risk management for cost trends, material and energy prices, financing and insolvencies
- Digitalization and future-oriented controlling tools in the construction industry
- Sustainability and ESG reporting as an integral part of controlling
- Best-practice approaches for project management, reporting and key performance indicators
The final topics will be further developed together with the members of the Sector Work Group and adapted to current requirements.
